Personal Assistant Vacancy, Cimla – 17hrs per week

Job Title:  Personal Assistant

Rate of Pay: £12.00 per hour

Pen Picture of the Person Requiring Assistance:

I am a gentleman in my 80s living in the Cimla area. Following an accident many years ago I have an acquired brain injury which affects my memory and concentration. I am also now living with mixed dementia which often impacts on my long-term coping strategies I have relied upon to manage my acquired brain injury over the years. I struggle to retain information and must be repeatedly reminded and prompted. As a result, my routine is very important to me and I find disruption to my routine very unsettling.

I am an active man and enjoy going out and about in the community where I am known well at the shops and cafes I frequent. I am very fit and need a PA who can keep up with me about town. I enjoy talking about my sporting achievements from my successful athletic career prior to my accident. I often talk about my beloved wife who I sadly lost and miss dearly. I enjoy getting out every morning, I like to eat breakfast out, I enjoy a flutter at the betting office, and watching sports on the television with my daily newspapers by my side is very important to me.

Activities Include:

  • Supporting me to catch the bus to Neath every morning for breakfast and to purchase my daily papers
  • Some occasional gentle prompting only with personal care routine
  • Some support with getting ready to go out if I misplace any items important to me such as my keys, wallet, reading glasses and bus pass
  • Helping me stay safe in the community
  • Supporting me to continue to live independently within my own home and helping me overcome daily struggles if I misplace items or become confused

Personal Qualities and Attributes required:

A person who:

  • A strong understanding of the impact of acquired brain injuries and mixed dementia
  • Is understanding, patient and supportive
  • Someone who will be able to repeatedly prompt and encourage me
